Hillsborough Hosts Veteran Information Session

March 16th event provided Veterans with important information and resources

On Saturday, March 16th, Hillsborough hosted an informational session for veterans. Open to vets throughout the county, the session, the first in a quarterly series, focused on County veteran services and veteran homelessness.

Presenting on behalf of Somerset County’s Office of Veterans Service, Veteran Service Officer Jean O’Brien and Director of Veterans Service Peter Niemiec shared tools and resources to benefit veterans, with a focus on war-specific disabilities and the benefits to which veterans are entitled.

Amy Halper, Clinical Supervisor for Veteran’s Haven North, discussed veteran homelessness and the options available to veterans struggling to find a place to live. At the end of the session, veterans participated in an engaging Q&A session.

Committeewoman Catherine Payne organized the event and couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout. "We had a phenomenal turnout for our first-ever Veteran Information Session, and I cannot wait for our next one in June,” she said at the March 26th Township Committee meeting. “We had 21 Veterans and/or family members of Veterans, and the conversation was flowing!"

Veteran information sessions are free and open to all veterans and/or family members of veterans. Veterans who would like to be placed on Hillsborough Township’s veteran’s email list can do so using the Veteran's eNews Sign Up Form or filling out the form at Hillsborough Township veteran’s events.

What follows is a list of upcoming events for veterans, all events take place at 379 S. Branch Road unless otherwise noted:

  • Garden of Honor Ceremony beginning at 11 am

•  Saturday, September 14th - Veteran’s Information Session
• Friday, September 20th, Time TBD - POW/MIA tribute
