2022 Halloween Recap from the Recreation Department

The Recreation Department had no shortage of Spooktacular Halloween Fun. They kicked off the Halloween festivities on Thursday with the Annual Children’s Halloween party at Norz Hill Farm. Children were able to go on a hayride, pick a pumpkin and a gourd, go through the corn maze, and take part in the “Guess Howl Many” contest. Roughly 150 children dressed up in costumes and enjoyed the Halloween fun while collecting treats from the Police, Fire Safety, and Recreation Departments. The winner of the “Guess Howl Many” Spider Rings contest, with a guess of 100, was Anthony Gonzalez. There were 114 pieces in the jar. Congratulations Anthony! Anthony was presented with all the spider rings and a certificate. A very special "Thank You!" goes to Bella Pizza who generously donated 20 pies to some very grateful ghosts and goblins. Bella Pizza was on site to hand out a FREE slice of pizza to all of the children who participated in the Halloween Party

The fun continued on Saturday with our 8th Annual Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade and Costume Contest at Ann Van Middlesworth Park. Over 40 dogs and their owners came in costume. Residents lined the path from the pavilion to the dog park to watch. Some of the costumes were mariachi and rock musicians, bumblebees, and the cast of Harry Potter. Girl Scouts from Service Unit 72 were on hand to judge and pick their favorites. The Best Large dog went to Bailey the Witch, Best Small Dog went to Cody the Dinosaur, and the Best Group winner was Brie, Annie, Duke, and Amore dressed as Girl Scout Cookies

The Recreation Department wrapped up the day with the 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat at the Willow Road Complex. Over 150 children participated and were able to visit almost 50 trunks from both residents and Township Departments, as well as partners such as YMCA, BoroSafe, and Hillsborough Municipal Alliance! Even the Batmobile showed up! Everyone was treated to a concert from the Somerville School of Rock House Band who played their Halloween-themed music for all to enjoy. After visiting all of the trunks and getting all of the treats, the children were able to vote on their favorite trunk. The winning trunk belonged to The Serwedes Family. They have received a certificate as well as a Gift Card donated by Shoprite. Congratulations Serwedes Family!
