Three Police Officers Promoted within the Hillsborough Township Police Department

The Hillsborough Township Committee promoted three police officers from the
Department to fill vacancies in the positions of Captain, Lieutenant, and Sergeant at the
February 14th Township Committee meeting.


Captain Sean Carolan has been working for the Department since April 1994. He was
initially appointed as a Police Officer and assigned to the Patrol Division. He was
promoted to Corporal in 1999, Sergeant in 2007, and Lieutenant in 2017. Captain
Carolan has also served as Deputy OEM Director and Investigative Division
Commander.


Lieutenant Thomas McLain graduated from the Somerset Police Academy in December
1999 and began working as a police officer in the Patrol Division also in December 1999.
Lieutenant McLain was School Resource Officer in 2003 before being promoted to
Corporal of the Patrol Division in 2016, where he worked until 2017 when he moved to
the Investigative Division/Juvenile. In 2020, Lieutenant McClain was promoted to
Sergeant in the Investigative Division. He currently serves as Commander of the
Investigative Division.


Sergeant Hank Olszyk was hired to work for Hillsborough Police on June 14, 2001,
when he was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 2005 and 2006, he worked as School
Resource Officer and stayed with the Investigative Division through 2021 when he was
promoted to Detective Bureau Corporal. Hank Olszyk currently serves as Sergeant in
the Patrol Division.


Lieutenant McLain and Sergeant Olszyk were joined with their families on Friday,
February 24th for a swearing in ceremony with Deputy Mayor Bob Britting. Captain
Carolan was sworn in on Monday, February 27th by Township Clerk Pamela Borek.


“Congratulations to our newly promoted officers,” concluded Deputy Mayor Bob
Britting.
