Shawn Lipani and Frank DelCore Chosen as Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Hillsborough Township for 2021

Erickson and Tomson Sworn In as Committee Members

Hillsborough Township Committee selected Shawn Lipani as Mayor and Frank DelCore as Deputy Mayor for 2021, at the Annual Reorganization meeting of the Township on Monday evening.

Lipani, a life-long Hillsborough resident, had been active in the community for many years, serving on many Township Boards and Commissions, prior to his election to the Township Committee.  Since joining the Committee, Lipani has been liaison to many Boards and Commissions including the Board of Adjustment, Board of Fire Commissioners, Credit Card Advisory, Economic and Business Development, Ethical Standards Board, Planning Board, and Veterans Committee. Previously, he has served as Chairman of the Planning Board, Economic and Business Development Commission and the Board of Adjustment. Shawn is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Hillsborough. A graduate of the University of Rochester, majoring in Political Science and minoring in International Relations, Lipani co-manages Central Jersey Nurseries, a family-owned business in Hillsborough. Shawn resides with his wife Tara and daughter Anastazia.

Following the Oath of Office of Mayor administered by Former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, Mayor Shawn Lipani assumed the presiding role over the remainder of the meeting with the next order of business being the selection of the Deputy Mayor.  Frank DelCore was selected for this position.

Deputy Mayor Frank DelCore was sworn in by former Mayor Gloria McCauley.  DelCore first joined the Township Committee in 2008, served as Mayor in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019 and as Deputy Mayor in 2008.   DelCore has also served as liaison to the Capital Planning Committee, Recreation Commission, Police, Rescue Squad, Emergency Management, Economic & Business Development Commission, Municipal Alliance, Historic Preservation, Planning Board, Sign Review Committee and Sustainable Hillsborough Commission.

Prior to the selection of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, at the onset of the meeting, Doug Tomson and Janine Erickson were sworn into the positions of Committee members by Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli.  Doug Tomson won his re-election in November for his 4th term.  Janine Erickson won her first election to the Committee.

During his Mayoral remarks, Lipani thanked his family, friends, colleagues and the residents of Hillsborough for their support.  “I assume this office humbly  and with the acceptance of its responsibility and requirements to the residents of Hillsborough,” stated newly selected Mayor Lipani.  He noted and thanked all the first responders, healthcare workers and employees who have worked around the clock during the pandemic and pledged continued support for the business community in 2021.

Mayor Lipani’s other plans for 2021 include maintaining the fiscally responsible budget and the road paving plan.  He will work with the State and monitor the anticipated completion of the Route 206 Bypass.  Moving forward, he will work with the state, county and federal agencies to acquire any aid and or grants  from past applications and future programs.  Additionally, Lipani will support the Parks and Recreation Department as they plan and be creative in program offerings as well as the Community Assistance Network in continuing to provide the support for our seniors  and residents in need.

“I am looking forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the Township Committee and am honored to serve as Deputy Mayor for Hillsborough,” commented Deputy Mayor DelCore.

The meeting concluded with the appointments to various Township Boards and Commissions for the year 2021. Due to the Pandemic of COVID-19, the informal gathering and refreshments did not take place after the meeting adjourned. For more information, be sure to visit the Township website in the coming weeks as the remaining Boards and Commissions reorganize for 2021.
