Hope for Tomorrow Virtual Mental Health Fair - Press Release

Hope for Tomorrow Virtual Mental Health Fair - Press Release
For Immediate Release
January 26, 2021

BoroSAFE, Hillsborough’s community organization dedicated to mental health awareness and suicide prevention, will hold a Virtual Mental Health Fair on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 6:30-8:00 PM. The event, called “Hope for Tomorrow,” i s based on l ive events of the same name that took place i n May of 2018 and 2019 for Mental Health Awareness Month.

The original “Hope for Tomorrow” event was an outdoor fair sponsored by the Woods Road School community to support a colleague who l ost a child to suicide. It was held at the Woods Road Firehouse and featured a variety of games and activities for children, resources tables and i nformation for families, refreshments, a poster contest, etc. The HEA Pride Committee and many l ocal businesses supported the event. BoroSAFE was one of many mental health resources that provided i nformation and giveaways. The event grew even l arger i n i ts second year, and the i dea of expanding community-wide was considered for the future.

Unfortunately, all plans for a 2020 event were put on hold due to Covid-19, while simultaneously the need for mental health awareness, suicide prevention and hope became greater than ever. In January, BoroSAFE, eager to address the needs of the community during the pandemic, reached out to some of the staff members at Woods Road School to offer a Hope for Tomorrow collaboration, and within a few short weeks, the virtual fair i dea became a reality.

The program will feature a keynote speaker from the organization Minding Your Mind, as well as a variety of breakout session opportunities for participants to choose from. The virtual fair will use a Zoom platform hosted by the Hillsborough Township School District and participants will register i n advance for the evening.

Topics for the evening i nclude a young adult story of resilience and hope, dealing with anxiety, parenting during the pandemic, meditation and mindfulness, an empowering children’s story called “Penelope the Powerful Parrot,” and many more. Presenters i nclude professionals from HTPS and l ocal agencies, i ncluding the Traumatic Loss Coalition of Somerset County, Blueprint Mental Health, NJ Hope and Healing, and other mental health organizations.

The evening will also feature a trivia game with prizes that i nclude gift cards to l ocal businesses, including Bella Pizza, Starbucks, Heavenly Sweets, Impact Fitness, Newell Strength and more.

And, stay tuned, because BoroSAFE also has a l ive Hope for Tomorrow event i n the planning stages for May!
