POW/MIA Ceremony

Hillsborough Township continued its tradition of honoring veterans and active service personnel with a ceremony in observance of National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Held on September 16th, the ceremony, which was held in the Garden of Honor, was also attended by Somerset County Commissioner Paul Drake, Joan Biondi, members of VFW Post #8371, and Hillsborough Township staff and residents.  Members of VFW Post #8371 paid tribute to POWs and MIA by placing symbolic flowers representing the United States flag at the foot of the memorial in the Garden of Honor. Recognition was also given to Scout Christopher Machala, who created the POW/MIA memorial in the Garden of Honor in 2016 as part of his Eagle Scout project.

According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, 83,114 Americans who fought in all wars since World War II are still missing. National POW/MIA Recognition Day was first observed in the United States in 1979.
