Hillsborough Township to Waive Fees to Support Open Space Purchase by Somerset County

County to waive associated fees with the County’s purchase of a parcel of land to add
to Somerset County Open Space.

“This is an opportunity for the Township to assist Somerset County with the purchase
of this property for Open Space preservation in connection to the Sourland Mountain
Preserve,” commented Committeeman John Ciccarelli, Liaison to the Hillsborough
Township Open Advisory Committee.

The proposal includes the subdivision of 510 Longhill Road (Block 169, Lot 56), a 13+
acre property into two lots; 8 acres of the parcel will be acquired by Somerset County
Open Space.

The remaining parcel will be retained by the existing property owner.
Currently, approximately one-third of Hillsborough Township is preserved as Open
Space and/or Preserved Farmland, while Somerset County holds additional Open
Space in Hillsborough. Thus approximately 30 percent of Hillsborough is protected
from future development.
