About Impervious Coverage Limits
Did you know that each property in the Township has an impervious coverage limit based on zoning? The Planning and Zoning Department would like to inform you that impervious coverage is any surface in the landscape that cannot effectively absorb or infiltrate rainfall. This includes driveways, patios, rooftops, and walkways. Water percolating into the soil becomes a stable supply of groundwater, and the runoff is naturally filtered of impurities before it reaches creeks, streams, rivers, and bays. As areas become more developed, the amount of impervious coverage increases and natural filter systems are no longer in place to intercept the runoff. This has serious implications for water quality and flood control. To learn more visit the Planning & Zoning webpage.
