Catalytic Converter Theft on the Rise

Catalytic converter theft has been on the rise in Hillsborough and throughout the country due to the high-value platinum and palladium contained within them.  The thefts primarily occur between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. and target Ford, Honda, and Toyota vehicles, especially F-Series model years 1985-2021, Accord model years 1989-2020, and Prius model years 2001-2021.  Thieves typically use a jack and Sawzall-type cutting tool and can complete the theft in minutes.  The Hillsborough Township Police Department asks that residents report anything they deem suspicious.  To report any suspicious activity, call the Hillsborough Township Police main number 908-369-4323.
