River Road Construction Begins
The project is anticipated to take up to 8 months
Somerset County began construction on CR 567 River Road in Hillsborough this week. The project will begin on River Road from Elm Street until approximately 1000 feet North of Elm Street. A full road closure and detour are in effect.
The project will include widening the roadway and constructing a retaining wall along the South Branch of the Raritan River, which should help to reduce erosion. Additional improvements include a new 4-foot wide berm between the wall, replacement of guide rails, fencing along portions of the new wall, drainage improvements, new pipe outfalls, and erosion protection measures at the river, per Somerset County.
“Hillsborough residents are encouraged to avoid the area and find an alternate route for their travels,” said Mayor Robert Britting at the March 26th Township Committee meeting.
Construction will take eight months to complete, ending in December 2024.
