Contractor Selected, Project set to resume following Mayor's advocacy

Mayor Robert Britting announced today he received notice from the New Jersey Department of Transportation that construction on Route 206 will resume, following significant efforts by Mayor Robert Britting to prioritize the project. The project was halted last spring following a dispute between the NJDOT and the contractor. Since then, the Township has been working with the Governor’s office and NJDOT to restart the construction work.

Several issues contributed to the delay in restarting the project, and the NJDOT Chief of Staff communicated to Mayor Britting that the surety has identified a completion contractor whose name will be made public once the agreement is signed. The takeover agreement is in the process of finalization, and all legal issues have been addressed.

Mayor Britting has strongly advocated for completing the Route 206 construction, recognizing its critical importance for local traffic flow, safety, and economic development. After several meetings and discussions with the Governor’s office and DOT, Mayor Britting’s persistence has resulted in a renewed commitment to advancing the project. "We understand the challenges and inconveniences that the delays have caused our residents and businesses," said Mayor Britting. "Resuming construction on Route 206 is a top priority, and I am grateful for the Governor and Department of Transportation's responsiveness to our community's needs."

Mayor Britting is committed to seeing the completion of Hillsborough’s infrastructure projects. “These projects are my top priority because they are crucial for enhancing our community's safety, efficiency, and economic vitality,” stated Mayor Britting. “The resumption of construction on Route 206 marks a significant step forward. I will continue to work closely with the Department of Transportation and other relevant agencies to ensure that this and other infrastructure projects are completed as swiftly and smoothly as possible.”

The Route 206 construction project, once completed, will significantly improve road infrastructure, reduce congestion, and enhance overall road safety. The DOT and local government are committed to working together to see the project through to its successful completion, bringing about a positive change in our community.
