Halloween Safety Tips

Chief Michael McMahon and the Hillsborough Police Department are urging Hillsborough residents to keep the following Halloween safety tips and precautions in mind:

• Wear light-colored clothing that is short enough to prevent tripping, and add reflective tape to the sides, front, and back of the costume.  
• Make sure children can see well through masks or cosmetics. 
• Adults should accompany young children.
• Go out in daylight and carry a flashlight after nightfall.
• Watch for traffic
• Examine all candy before allowing children to eat it.
• Only give and accept wrapped or packaged candy. 
• Keep control of pets.  They may react unexpectedly to children in costumes.
