NJ Dot Traffic Advisory: Falcon Road to Be Reduced to One Lane at Route 206 Intersection

NJ Dot Traffic Advisory

Falcon Road to be reduced to one lane at Route 206 intersection

(Trenton) – Route 206 northbound is scheduled to have a lane closure Friday night for work at the Falcon Road/Triangle Road intersection as the Route 206, Doctors Way to Valley Road project advances in Hillsborough, Somerset County. In addition, lane closures on Falcon Road and Triangle Road are also scheduled for Friday night.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, December 6 until 6 a.m. Saturday, December 7, the left lane on Route 206 northbound is scheduled to be closed approaching the Falcon Road/Triangle Road intersection. One lane will be maintained. In addition, the right three lanes on Falcon Road westbound at the Route 206 intersection and the left lane on Triangle Road eastbound approaching Route 206 are scheduled to be closed at the same time. The closures are necessary to restripe Route 206 northbound, Falcon Road, and Triangle Road to change the lane configuration at the intersection to allow for work on a new ramp from Route 206 southbound to Triangle Road/Falcon Road eastbound.

By 6 a.m. Saturday, December 7, the intersection will be in the following configuration through the spring:

  • Route 206 northbound – a dedicated left turn lane will be added resulting in four lanes at the intersection: a dedicated left turn lane, two through lanes, and a dedicated right turn lane
  • Falcon Road - three out of four lanes at the intersection will be closed leaving one lane with all movements permitted (left turn, right turn, and straight)
  • Triangle Road eastbound - one dedicated left turn lane will be removed, leaving three lanes: a dedicated left turn lane, one through lane, and a dedicated right turn lane
  • Triangle Road westbound – a second lane will be added from the Route 206 intersection

The federally-funded Route 206, Doctors Way to Valley Road project will create two travel lanes in each direction of Route 206 between Doctors Way and Valley Road, enhance safety and ease traffic congestion. The project will also include the construction of a new median barrier which will eliminate left turns to and from properties located along the highway and will direct turns onto newly signalized intersections, and jughandles. This will reduce turn-related crashes and optimize traffic flow.

Portable variable message signs are being used to provide advance notification of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information, and for NJDOT news follow us on X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT, on the NJDOT Facebook page, or Instagram @NewJersey.DOT.
