Township Committee Declared April as National Gardening Month

At the April 28th meeting, the Township Committee declared April as National Gardening Month. National Gardening Month was established in 2002 as April means spring and a chance to celebrate new life.

“The Township Committee encourages all Hillsborough residents to celebrate through appreciating, virtually, the beautiful gardens of the world or growing a Pandemic Garden in the spirit of the 2020 theme Let’s Grow Together, ” said Mayor Doug Tomson.

Last year the Neshanic Garden Club celebrated its 90th anniversary in service and fellowship to the communities of Hillsborough, Branchburg and Montgomery. The club is in the process of installing a Blue Star Memorial on the Hillsborough Municipal campus to honor the men and women who have served our nation. The Neshanic Garden Club also provides speakers to encourage the art of horticulture, floral design and the safe-keeping of our environment during its monthly meetings.

Gardens have played an important role in the history of human culture from sources of food to locations for leisure and entertainment. Victory Gardens during WWII supplied homes with fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs and today, Pandemic Gardens can do the same. Gardening gets you out in the fresh air, adds positive energy, and provides an activity for the entire family.
