Beginning Alcohol Basic Education Series is a nationally recognized abuse prevention program which originated in Michigan over twenty-five years ago and has been in Hillsborough for over 20 years.  Through the use of seven puppets in six-story lessons, BABES touches the hearts and minds of children, as it helps them to grow in self-esteem, coping and decision-making skills while also providing non-judgmental and factual information concerning the use and abuse of chemical substances.  Our facilitators have been certified to present the program. The program is coordinated through District Life Skills and funded through Hillsborough/Millstone Municipal Alliance.

PLC – (Parents Learning Community)

Five-week parent-to-parent workshop series focused on strengthening relationships and improving communication with our children and adolescents for the prevention of substance use and abuse.  One session includes a presentation by the Hillsborough Township Police on local trends in alcohol/drug use as well as internet safety.

Family Unity Nights (FUN)

This seven-week program for families with children ages 10 – 14 years old is made possible through Empower Somerset.  The program includes topics such as communication skills, stress management, self-esteem, family fun and problem-solving.   Each evening starts with family dinner and family bonding time. Children and parents participate in the program together.

15 Minute Child Break”

One hour interactive presentation that informs, encourages and empowers parents to listen and communicate effectively with their children in order to prevent substance abuse.  The presentation is delivered by trained professionals from Partnership from a Drug-Free NJ.

Life Skills – Parents in the Classroom

Health and life lessons are taught by trained parent volunteers in Kindergarten through 6th grade.. Program themes include the danger of tobacco use, early prevention against alcohol and drugs, peer pressure, self-esteem, conflict resolution, and bullying.

Every 15 Minutes

This is a 2-day drunk driving simulation for Hillsborough High School seniors which educates the students and the community on the dangers of drinking and driving.

Project Graduation

Project Graduation is an all-night, alcohol and drug free celebration to help ensure the safety of our graduating high school seniors on graduation night.  Why is Project Graduation so important? Graduates often “party hop” in their efforts to celebrate with as many of their classmates as possible. Project Graduation provides a safe and fun-filled alternative to party hopping: it keeps all of the graduates together and off of the roads, prevents any of them from becoming an accident statistic, and allows their parents to rest easy knowing their son/daughter is safely celebrating.
